Here we have discussed the top must-try tips to adopt in the colder seasons so that your manes remain healthy with full of life and shine.

1. Clean Your Hair Regularly

Even though it’s not summer and your hair doesn’t pick up as much sweat, dirt, and debris, it’s still advisable to clean them regularly to maintain healthy hair.

Any small amount of dirt accumulated on the scalp can block the oil ducts [1], making your scalp even drier and flakier and more prone to breakage.

(during the colder months, your scalp is already dry and brittle because of lack of moisture in the surrounding) .

To get rid of the dirt from your manes, we would suggest you wash them twice a week with a sulfate-free shampoo (we prefer the Moroccan Oil Hydrating Shampoo).

For the rest of the days, wash with a hydrating conditioner to ensure that hair is super clean without stripping off any excess moisture and nourishment.

On the other hand, as the weather is cold, you might not want to wash them regularly but still want to enjoy a head full of refreshed manes with added volume.

In this case, you can always rely on dry shampoo because a dry shampoo like the John Frieda Luxurious Volume, Volume Refresh Dry Shampoo for a voluminous outlook.

2. Keep Your Hair and Scalp Super Hydrated

Hydrated Scalp and Hair

When the environment is dry and brittle this winter season, you must keep your hair and scalp super hydrated and nourished.

After every hair wash, start by putting on a hydrating conditioner (such as the Pureology Hydrate Moisturizing Conditioner) to keep the hair well-moisturized.

Also, don’t forget to treat them with a deep conditioning treatment to reverse the damaging effects of dryness, and provide them with lots of nutrients and nourishment.

3. Style Less Often

Winter is the season of parties and events, and this party season, it’s natural that you would want to deck up your hair with different styles.

But hair experts suggest limiting the use of heat styling tools.

These tools can potentially strip of moisture and nourishment from your hair and make it even drier, more damaged [2], and incredibly prone to breakage.

If heat styling is essential, then we would recommend you try out a Keratin Flat iron like the La-Brasiliana Flat Iron.

The keratin feature in this flat iron transfers micro-conditioners in the hair strands during the straightening or curling process without any oil residue and makes sure that your hair is safely styled.

Don’t forget to apply a handful of heat protectants on your manes (we prefer the HSI PROFESSIONAL Argan Oil Heat Protector) before using any heat styling tool.

The protectant ensures that your tresses are safe by minimizing the several damaging effects of the high heat.

4. Skip Hot Water to Wash the Hair

Avoid Hot Water to Wash the Hair

Even though it might be tempting to turn the water temperature up and get a super relaxing hot bath, we would strictly advise against it.

Hot water can strip off moisture and nourishment from your already vulnerable manes.

Making them dry [3] and also damaging the sensitive scalp.

Instead, wash your hair with cold or lukewarm water to keep the moisture level intact and make sure that your locks are healthy.

5. Don’t Keep Your Hair Wet

During this colder season, never leave your manes wet, especially when going out.

Take the extra time and effort to blow dry your hair. Wet hair is more vulnerable to damage than dried one.

When you step outside with damp hair strands in the winter season, the chilly weather can freeze the hair strands leading them to severe breakage and damage.

Also, as it is already chilly outside, leaving your manes wet for a long time can potentially make you catch a cold and fall sick.

Ensure you use an excellent hairdryer (we would recommend the Remington D3190 Damage Protection Hair Dryer) this winter to dry your manes completely and flaunt them fearlessly.

6. Opt for Silk

Opt for Silk

A hat or cap is a must-have accessory in the winter month.

This fashion accessory adds dimension to your overall outlook and saves you from the chilly winds and freezing weather.

But do you know that woolen hats and scarves can cause friction with your manes and make them super frizzy?

The wool also soaks up the moisture and natural oils from the hair and scalp making them dry and brittle, leading to excessive damage.

Hair experts and enthusiasts recommend using a hat silk lining or wrapping all your hair in a silk scarf before putting on the hat so that there is no friction.

Silk can preserve hydration and protect your manes from any damage [4].

  2. Hello peeps,

I enjoyed every part of your writing. I also loved the fact that you added suitable pictures. This increased the visual appeal of your blog.

I have a question. In one part of the article, you have suggested to always dry our wet hair with a suitable hairdryer to avoid breakage and damage. I would like to know, if, instead of a blow dryer, I use microfiber hair towel for the maximum drying process and then let air dry my manes, would there be any problem?

    Looking forward to your answer!

    • Dear Jaclyn,

First of all, thank you very much for your kind words. We appreciate our readers’ feedback.

Secondly, during the winter season, keeping your wet manes dry is important. How you dry it is not important. You can use either a blow dryer or a steaming flat iron or just air dry it- but don’t leave it wet to suffer from cold and hair damage.

We hope this would help you.
