And Sara knows these facts. When her precious bathroom mirror showed signs of scratches she was not only sad but also worried about how to repair it because she loves this piece of vanity accessory.

To help Sara and many others like her, in this article, we have discussed in length how you can remove scratches from a bathroom mirror so that it looks as fresh as a new one.

So, without further ado, let’s start.

Toothpaste - 217420

Aside from cleaning your teeth and refreshing your breath, toothpaste has many other versatile uses, one of which is to remove scratches and stains from your bathroom mirror. As it is the handiest item in the basin area, you can actually start removing scratches as soon as you spot it.

Start your scratch removal process by cleaning the glass surface. Wipe it off with a fresh cleaning cloth so that there is no water, dirt, or debris left on the mirror. Try out this AIDEA Microfiber Cleaning Cloth as it is made from microfiber and doesn’t leave behind any streak.

Then wash off the cloth completely so that it’s clean again. Squeeze the water as much as you can.

After that, squeeze a drop of your favorite toothpaste onto the damp towel and smear it a bit. Remember to use regular white fluoride toothpaste rather than the gel ones. You can adopt this Colgate MaxClean Toothpaste with Fluoride for the perfect results.

Now, place the cloth with toothpaste onto the scratched area and move it in a circular motion for about 30 seconds. The abrasive ingredients in toothpaste can remove scratches and stains from the glass surface effortlessly.

If the scratch is a bit stubborn, you might need to repeat the above process of several minutes before diminishing it completely.

Once you are done, wash the microfiber towel again and wipe the toothpaste for a clean, clear reflective surface.

2. Try Out Clear Nail Polish

Nail Polish Cleaner

Another home remedy that you can use to effectively clear away scratches from your beautiful bathroom mirror is by using clear nail polish. It can successfully cover up the disturbance without cutting deep into your pocket.

To repair your mirror, first, clean it properly to remove any dirt or water from it. Then take a clear nail polish (such as this Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear, Invisible) and apply a small amount on the scratch with the nail polish applicator. Spread it well so that the whole scratch is covered.

Leave it for about an hour and let it dry completely.

Once it dries out completely, take a clean and dry microfiber cloth and dampen it slightly with a nail polish remover. Then rub the wet section on the polish to remove it from the glass surface completely and reveal a scratch-free, fresh viewing panel underneath.

3. Don’t Hesitate to Use Baking Soda

Although baking soda is a cooking ingredient, it can work wonders on your bathroom mirror as well. The abrasive components present in the baking soda fixes the irregularity of the mirror without causing any damage to it.

Begin your mirror repair session by making a baking soda paste. Take equal parts of soda (try out this Earthborn Elements Baking Soda) and water and mix it well until it forms a thick paste.

Then wrap a microfiber towel around your finger and dab it in the paste. When you have an adequate amount of paste on the towel, rub it in a circular motion on the mirror scratch for about 30 seconds maximum. Then remove your finger and see if the mark vanishes or not; it might take several attempts to diminish any stubborn scratches.

Metal polish like this Weiman Jewelry Polish Cleaner incorporates a chemical called cerium oxide that acts as a strong abrasive and helps to remove scratches quickly.

Before applying this on your bathroom mirror, wipe the surface with lukewarm water so that there is no dirt and germs left. Let it dry for a bit.

Then, wrap around a microfiber towel around your pointer finger and squeeze a bit of polish on the towel surface. Remember to take just a droplet as an excessive amount of this chemical can lead to additional damages.

Then rub the polish on the reflective surface gently for about 30- 45 seconds to reveal a clear, spotless mirror underneath.

Once the scratch is entirely removed, wipe it again with a damp towel to get rid of the polish for a sparkling viewing panel.

5. Try Liquid Pumice Soap

Liquid Pumice Soap

Another home remedy that you can use to successfully remove any type of stains and scratches from your bathroom mirror is by using liquid pumice soap. This heavy-duty hand cleaner comes with an additional amount of abrasive elements that wipe off disturbance from the glass surface more effectively than any other household materials.

Dampen a part of your cleaning microfiber towel with the liquid pumice soap (we recommend GOJO NATURAL ORANGE Pumice Hand cleaner) and then gently buff it on the mirror in a small circular motion for several minutes. Then wipe off the soap to discover a scratch-less, fresh mirror.

Final Words

The tricks we have discussed above are all effective. You can try any of them to remove any scratches from your favorite bathroom mirror completely. We can assure you that they would work like magic.

  1. Hi people,

I just came here to share my experience with you. After going through this article several times, I decided to try out the “toothpaste” method but with my own twist. Instead of wiping the mirror with a toothpaste smeared towel, I spread over the toothpaste on the mirror surface and left it for 7-8 minutes before wiping it off with a damp microfiber towel. It worked amazing for me. There were no scratches left on the reflective surface.

Then again, I cannot guarantee that it would work for you the same way it worked for me. I would suggest you stick to the methods described in this article.

    Thank you for reading this.
